I woke from a dream, reckoning not
Where I lay nor how to that place I'd got.
Semaphore or smoke signals hardly could convey
My distress, confusion and dismay.
Gathering my thoughts like a herd of wild sheep,
I reassemble my whereabouts from that fitful sleep.
Passing by the window sill, I saw
Outside in the sunlight a carcass, raw
And bloodied and rigor-mortified.
My heart sank at the recrudescence of reality.
My dream was broken.
